Jaimie Lomasney

I grew up with Douthat State Park in my back yard, literally, as it was only 20 minutes down the road. I married my high school sweetheart after graduating from college and immediately worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation in the Public Relations Department. I quickly realized I wanted something different.

Little did I know I would open up a newspaper and find an advertisement for a job opening up at – guess where…Douthat State Park. Who knew? It was a job to work with volunteers, customer service, and marketing. It sounded too good to be true – working from the mountain trails to the lakes – and I get to experience it all.

During my time at Virginia State Parks I have met lifelong friends, adopted life changing habits, and my husband and I started our family. I now have two beautiful daughters that take up most of my time and have tagged along with me traveling to the parks, and shooting videos that capture a little bit of the parks’ charm. I try to live with passion and want my girls to do the same.

Life sometimes has different plans. As of May 15 I will be leaving Virginia State Parks, but I’m not going too far. I’m going to be a stay-at-home mom and I couldn’t be happier. I get to now experience Douthat State Park (which is still in my back yard) with my family as a guest. And maybe just maybe, you’ll continue to see me through my videos and photos that I’ll be shooting and developing for the parks seasonally.
